The Gold Coast is bracing for a tourism bonanza this Easter as thousands of tourists flock here for the holidays.

It comes as a new survey found the Gold Coast is the number one holiday destination pick for Aussies this Easter ahead of Sydney and Melbourne.

The influx of tourists is set to provide operators with a much-needed boost with travellers expected to pump $183 million into the local economy over the holidays.

More than 70 flights are set to land on the Coast today alone ahead of the long weekend.

Easter Monday is set to break records with up to 28,000 passengers set to travel through Gold Coast Airport.

Hotel occupancy is up around 82 per cent for the break.

Destination Gold Coast Head of Stakeholders & Strategy Rachel Hancock says it’s looking fantastic.

“It’s been a long time coming and it’s great to see. It’s just wonderful news for these tourism operators who have been really doing it pretty tough.,” Ms Hancock said.

“The Christmas holidays were ones that they missed so this is the time to make hay while the sun shines.”

The boom is expected to continue beyond Easter with the Anzac Day long weekend to follow along with the Labor Day long weekend the following week.

“All signs are pointing in the right direction for ANZAC Day as well, we’re going to see a lot more visitors coming to the Gold Coast.”

The long weekends come off the back of a strong start to the school holidays with operators reporting upticks in bookings.
