A severe thunderstorm warning for intense rainfall has been issued for parts of South East Queensland, but the Gold Coast has not been included at this stage.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, “very dangerous thunderstorms” were detected on the weather radar near the area south of Gympie, Amamoor and Lowood around 10.30am.
It’s understood that the thunderstorms are slow-moving.
“Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect the area southeast of Gympie by 11:00 am and Lake Manchester, Albany Creek and Kenilworth by 11:30 am,” BOM warned.
“Intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding is likely”.
It comes as Cooran recorded 133mm in 2 hours this morning, while Mt Glorious recorded 164mm in just 3 hours.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
