A Gold Coast man has been charged following a crash on the Sunshine Coast that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy.

It’s understood the boy had crashed into a guard rail along the Bruce Highway around 8pm on the night of August 30, 2021.

He got out of the car and was waiting for assistance in the emergency stopping lane when he was hit by another car, also heading northbound on the highway.

The 17-year-old died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators have since issued the a 22-year-old Parkwood man with at Notice To Appear (NTA) on one count each driving while relevant drug is present in blood or saliva and keeping to the left on a multi-lane road.

He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on February 28.
