Queensland will phase out its Check-In App for businesses without vaccine mandates as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to drop.
The state recorded another 4,701 cases as well as another 19 deaths in the last 24-hour reporting period.
Of the 19 deaths, one was aged in their 60s, five in their 70s, nine in their 80s and four in their 90s.
Nine of the 19 were not vaccinated, one had received one dose, eight had two doses and only one had received a booster shot.
Hospitalisations had also dropped with 663 people now receiving care in public hospitals including 43 in intensive care.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed the Check-In App would be slowly phased out, but people will still have to show their vaccination status.
“Because we’re coming off the peak we can announce that people will not have to use the Check-In App,” the Premier said
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the use of the app would still be mandatory for businesses with vaccination mandates.
“Business such as clubs and hotels, those venues will still operate the check-in for the purpose of confirming vaccination status,” she said.
“For all other business, from today, they will not require a Check-In App.”
That includes taxi’s and ride shares and businesses like retail stores, supermarkets, gyms, hairdressers and beauty salons.
Ms D’Ath said it was important ‘high-risk’ venues continue to use the Check-In App.
“By maintaining that, it is actually the easiest way for businesses and compliance officers to ensure that people are meeting that mandatory requirement,” she said.
“We’re I’m seeing the low compliance was really in those bigger retail settings and supermarkets where people were having to check-in every shop that they were going into.
“That’s where we’ll take that burden away and go back to not needing that check-in at all.”
