Residents of Tamborine Mountain are pleading with the general public for assistance following the Christmas Day tornado and the New Years weather event.
One of the locals from the area contacted 1029 Hot Tomato pleading for help, saying that the community is struggling without power and have been told it could be up to 6 weeks before it’s restored.
“We’ve got zero power and all our grid is down and it’s a complete rebuild,” explained Ange Wild. “You’ve got elderly and families up here stuck on a mountain with major road closures, with most of our shops running off generators intermittently for limited hours with no stock because they’ve had to throw it all out because their fridges all shut down.”
She adds, “Now we’ve got the problem where generators are consumables, they need petrol, they need oil and all of our tank water runs on electric pumps… we’ve got 90-year-old people pooing in buckets!”
Ms Wild and others have set up a Go Fund Me to provide money to locals to help them out in this time of need.
“We’re on a mountain with no power for 6 weeks as it needs a complete rebuild, we’ve got no data because the towers are down, no wifi. We’re in crisis.”
If you can spare it and would like to assist, please check out the Go Fund Me for Tamborine Mountain Storm Relief here, or contact Ange on 0438682085.
